What in the world was that American soldier thinking when he killed those 16 people in Afghanistan? Maybe he was thinking: “If I kill enough innocent people, this war will end, and then I can go home.” Maybe he was just fucking crazy.

Has America always been so misguided? Probably, only now we have iPhones. Our foreign and domestic policies are shit. Our Congress can’t do anything unless we get bombed our the market crashes. I used to think that was what made our country so great - the robust debate, the culmination of good ideas. Maybe that used to be true - but it’s certainly not the case any more. Take it from a guy who was glued to C-SPAN for the last 3 years.
I have many questions for the bubble: Where is the energy bill Obama promised us? Why does our infrastructure look like shit? Why do we have so many people in jails? And most importantly, why are our kids so stupid? These aren’t difficult matters to solve. They benefit all of us so why can’t any of them become law in Congress?
Look at the Republican candidates. Pathetic. Look at how Obama hasn’t been able to close down the illegal Guantanamo Bay. Even worse. Our colony - that’s exactly what it is - on Cuba (the only place in the world Americans still cannot legally venture foot on) - is a sovereign nation and it slaps each and every one of us in the face every day we imprison men without allowing them any way out. It’s barbaric, it’s insane, it’s ignorant - it’s US.
One of the smartest people I’ve ever met said a very interesting thing once: Of course America is imperialist. Of course America exploits other nations for her personal gain. This is survival of the fittest on a macro scale, brahh. That’s the debate - now here’s my side.
Sure, America needs to serve her needs. We wanted Iraq’s oil and the cherry on top was Saddam for George W. Bush (to kill the man who tried to kill his dad). But to what end do we do this? The great book: Economic Hitman talks about how CIA-type agents were employed by megalith corporations to screw over little countries. Our government worked with these corporations to benefit all of America, resulting with the baby boom generation. Why can’t we stop squabbling and venture into the next frontier. Instead of fighting between our insignificant selves, let’s explore space, the ocean, the human mind.
The problem with American imperialism began when people - probably with ideas from Americans - started to unite and form democracy. Formerly inconsequential countries now stood to bring their people from nothing, into a home and a job for the very first time. Simply put, they stole our idea and are now using it against us because they’re super cheap. They have no laws like America to say you cant make a child work 15 hours a day for 3 pennies. So that’s what they do. Don’t be so quick to knock it (of course that’s bad but) we did it too.
We need to realize that we’re not competing by our own rules anymore. We don’t run the game and can no longer cheat at it. The faster we grow east coast to west coast high speed rail, update our urban infrastructure, regain our honor in the international community and teach our children the truth about history - the faster we will rise out of the ashes of 9/11 and fly again.
